Our Hanger Policy

The number one question we are asked, possibly because our method is different from other consignment stores, is why must they arrive on hangers? There is a long list of reasons as to why we ask this but mainly its to ensure that all pieces brought in for consignment look their very best.

#1 – Cleanliness

Within moments we can look over your items and see if they are suitable for resale when they are hanging. Stains and rips are easily visible when items are hanging.

#2 – Pressed, Ironed & Steamed

Your items will look as new and crisp as possible to go out on the sales floor. Hangers ensures that you have freshly washed, ironed or pressed your items before bringing them in.

#3 – Organization

In order to have each consignor in and out as quickly as possible, hangers allows us to keep everyone organized. We divide each consignor’s items to ensure we keep track of who is who and by order of arrival.

#4 – Cost Effective

The nicer items look when they arrive, the more pristine and sharp they look on a hanger the greater the price we can put on the item and therefore more money in your pocket. If items are brought in bags they inevitably have fold lines, wrinkles and do not look their best.

#5 – Back pain

Last but certainly not least (for us!) is that we cannot bend over and lift over one thousand pieces of clothing a day to see if they are items we can accept. Hangers relieves this huge issue by making it that much easier for everyone involved.

What we accept in March & April

Every day we are asked what we are currently accepting, more often than not consignors assume we operate the way the mall does, a season in advance. At the mall you are looking at your dead heat of summer clothing, clothing you won’t be able to wear for another few months. Odds are you are not getting out your summer closet just yet -10 is a bit cold for that. In Kingston we can see snow straight into May, have you ever been swimming on May 2-4! Brrr!!

What we are currently accepting is what you want to wear today, under that winter jacket. This year we didn’t get the harsh winter we expected so most of us aren’t even wearing our heavy coats but rather our lighter fall or spring ones with a sweater underneath or a lining.

  • Long to 3/4 sleeve tops, tunic tops
  • Light weight running jackets
  • Large purses in bright colours, no blacks or browns
  • Statement costume jewellery
  • Closed toe shoes, flats, ankle boots
  • Slim leg pants, skinny and boyfriend cut jeans, leggings
  • Bright print dresses, thicker fabric

  • What we are not currently accepting due to space and limited interest:

  • Size 0-6 pants & skirts
  • Size XS tops
  • 4X and up
  • Black & grey tops, cardigans

  • We do not have enough clientele (shoppers) that are seeking extra small sizes or sizes higher than a 3X. We receive mostly size 6 pants and jeans but don’t have a large enough clientele base that is seeking that size so our intake is limited. This means we can sometimes only take one or two pairs per person. Due to the changing of the season everyone is wanting brighter colours so we are no longer accepting much in the way of black or grey especially when it comes to purses, save these for later in the fall.
